Architecture Vs. Urban Planning: Comparison and Contrast.

A few years ago, everyone could think that architecture and urban planning were the same career and even they had to deal with the same problems, but it´s not true. Architecture was born out of the need for a shelter , while urban planning was born out of the need to manage architectural works and services needed by any population; urban planning formally dates back some 25 years while architecture exists since the beginning of humanity.

Both professions are responsible for the creation of spaces that satisfy human needs, but on different scales: urban planning works to create groups of buildings, landscapes, cities, etc., while architecture works to design individual parts, small details in buildings. Architecture is a complement to urban planning and urban planning is a complement to architecture.

I think that Caracas doesn´t have any specific urbanistic plan, Caracas is a mix between few architectonic manifestations and population extention. It´s a difficult case which can be solved by strengthening the relationship between these two professionals.
